The Future Of The Language Card Games Industry [11 of 12] – Card Games For Learning Foreign Languages

It’s no secret, I’m gonna be a biased on this one. I’m gonna say the language card game industry is going to keep growing and diversifying. But I do have a reasonable cause for hope, I think, because the indie card game and board game industry is currently growing despite what many people had predicted to the opposite. Many people expected that amazing developments in technology like video games and apps would be the end of card games and board games, but it hasn’t. And think we’ll continue to see incredible growth in each field for a long time to come.

We have also seen and are seeing the integration of the two. If you remember that the Pokemon trading card game had e-reading technology for physical cards. The cards had a little barcode on ‘em. You could own the physical card, but then scan it, and what you had would then be in the game. And I’ve seen some really cutting edge technology recently where holding your smartphone over a card will create a moving hologram and the contents of your card will spring to life. Check it out here! How amazing is that?

Some card companies also use QR code technology to let people scan their cards and go to video lessons about the card. I’ve also seen some cards you can touch with some kind of e-pen and then the e-pen will play audio files on what the card’s all about. There are also some flatscreen tables that students move around content on, including card-like content and games, kind of like Jason Bourne or Mission Impossible!

I think for a considerable amount of time into the future, we’re going to have card games because people want something they can feel and touch. They want something that can gather their family and friends around the table away from technology and they like to collect something physical. Will this always be the case? I don’t know. When we’re all plugged into the matrix, we might not even need solid food anymore. Anything could happen. But that’s not a future I would want. And for me, personally, I plan to keep investing in things that help create real connections between real people. People who still know how to hold a conversation. People who have attention spans longer than a fruit fly. People who like to share food and laughter and games at the table.
