Social Media Strategy – 04 – How To Make A Card Game

Hey, everybody, welcome back.  My name is Matthew Boyle from www.languagecardgames.com, and we’re talking about how to design and sell your very first card game.  In this video, I would like to talk about starting or establishing your online social media presence.

Why am I talking about this now?  The reason is it takes time to weave yourself in to the online world.  Maybe some of you already have that kind of stuff going.  I’m talking about having a Twitter channel or a YouTube channel, maybe a Facebook or a website.  Maybe some of you already have things like that going, but even if you already have things like that going, I believe you need to set up unique channels for the card game that you’re trying to produce and sell.

The reason we’re doing it in the beginning is because it takes time to get noticed, to network, to build the relationships with other people, and to get those channels growing.  Then, by the time that you’re ready to produce and sell the game, some of the groundwork has already been laid with the channels, and it will be easier to parlay that into the first sales.

The other reason that we’re doing it is so you can share the progress of making the first game.  Some people may not want to do that; they may want to wait until it’s finished and then share it online.  Well, by the time it’s finished, that process by which you’ve created the games is very useful fodder in the initial stages of the channel.  Why throw that away?  That’s gold!  So try to film and post some regular updates about your process and your progress, and that can help build up the initial fanbase of people who are very excited to buy this when it’s ready.  And they may even offer some questions and advice that help you to shape the project, the card game, so that it sells more successfully.

So that’s my recommendation in this video: think about establishing yourself on the right social media platforms on which you think will be good for you to network with people.  There’s so many, and I’m not saying you have to do this one or the other one, but just think about which one would be most useful for you.  Have those set up and start to network on them and share your progress of making the game on them from the get-go.  Then, don’t delete or remove those earlier videos as you get better and better because that’s all useful for SEO purposes, and it’s going to provide the foundation for your better videos and the release of your game which is to come.

If you want to talk more about establishing yourself on the right social media platforms, let’s talk about that in the comments section.  For now, we’re going to move on to the next video and talk about the actual design of the cards.  Thank you so much for watching, and I’ll see you next time.
