Keeping Customers – 10 – How To Make A Card Game

Hi, my name’s Matthew Boyle.  I’m from www.languagecardgames.com, and thank you so much for tuning back in.  This will probably be the last video in the series, and we are going to talk about what to do with those first customers when you receive them.

Long story short: treat them exceedingly well because this is the other form of advertisement.  More important that mass marketing, pushing your ads out there every day – this is much more important because the initial customers are the core of your business.  You need to serve them well, and was it Paul Mitchell – is that his name? (*No, it was John Paul DeJoria, founder of Paul Mitchell hair care products) – who said you don’t want to be in the business of selling; you want to be in the business of reselling.  So remember, just to sell to that first customer is not the end of the game for you.  You want to engage with that customer such that they’re going to love you and want to continue to engage with you and be looking forward to what you will produce next, and they will also be, if they have a good experience with you, they’ll be sharing that experience with others.

A customer sharing a positive experience to other potential customers, other people who think like them because they’re friends, means those people will become customers, too.  So you need to have a way to save your customers’ contact information, and periodically, you want to reach back out to them with valuable free content.  You want to give them free information that can help them use the game better or just learn something related to the game.  You certainly don’t want to bother them, but you want to give them more value.  You want to give them hundreds of times more value than they expect because, again, they are the core; they are the heart of your business.  Don’t get to that first customer and then lightly toss them aside and look for the next customer.  No!  Remember, you’re in this business because you want them to be happy and excited to be using your product.  That is a magical thing, that they would pay for that and then use that and share that with their friends.  You’re directly influencing other people’s quality of life.  That’s an amazing thing.  So just remember that they are the core of your business.

I’m going to share with you the way I look at it.  If you buy from me, if you become one of my customers, I will be thinking about you for the rest of my life.  That’s the way I look at it.  I really do.  I have your information saved, and as long as you want to be a part of my life, too, that’s the way I’m going to be regarding you.  I mean, if you don’t want to be my friend in that way, then don’t worry about it.  I’m not going to keep bothering you.  But my hope is that if you’re my customer and you like my product and you’ve paid for it and you’re looking forward to the next one, then you’re just going to be a part of my life, and you’re going to continue to receive that outpouring of any good content that I can create.

So I hope you look at your first customers that way, and it might not be next month; it might not even be in the next six months, but hopefully in the next year or the following year, you’re going to start to see the ripples spread out in the water, and if you’ve treated those initial customers very well, that’s going to pay great dividends back to you in the future.  It’s kind of like an investment; just like you invest money in the card games in the beginning, you’re also investing in the initial customers in the beginning.  You’re giving them much more value than they would ever expect, and there’s a hope that they will reciprocate.  Most people who are enthusiastic human beings will, and you can continue to support each other as life goes on.

That’s it for this video.  Thank you so much for watching.  I’m going to do one more video, just as an addendum to the whole series, but it’s not going to be about selling or designing the games anymore.  Thank you so much for watching, and let’s go to the last video.
