Influencers – 08 – How To Make A Card Game

Hi, everybody.  My name is Matthew Boyle.  I’m from www.languagecardgames.com.  Welcome back to this video series where we are talking about how to go from having no card game to selling your first card game.  In the last video, we talked about price, and I want to slide from that topic right into talking about sending your product to people who will review it.  Another thing that’s going to be an initial investment for you is buying copies of the decks to send for free to people who will review them, and just like the card itself is the first advertisement people will see, the second valuable form of advertisement is what people say after they have the game.  If you have one nice video review from another vlogger, that’s worth more than 50 of your own videos talking about your own game.  It’s going to reach different circles; it’s going to reach out to different social circles, and it’s also going to be produced independently of you.

So in this video, when we’re thinking about how to tip that snowball over the edge of the hill, it’s going to be very important for you to find someone who will be willing to review your game on their channel or someone who would be willing to blog about it on their blog.  So you need to do some research and some networking and just say to these people, “Hey, I would be more than willing to send you a free copy of my new game if you will just agree to review it.”  And a lot of them are very open to this idea because there’s certain types of bloggers and vloggers who like to share new ideas that they’re finding out there and new products.  Often, they will like to make sure that you will allow them to review it objectively.  They want to be able to speak truthfully and sincerely to their followers, so set them at ease and let them know that you would like them to do an honest and objective review of the thing.  If they say anything negative, it will usually be couched in the positive, if they’re a half-decent human being, and you can use the constructive criticism or the negative things that they or people in the comments section say.  You can turn that into fuel to reiterate the game and make it even better.

So in this video, we talked about how to push the snowball over the hill; that’s the analogy I’m going to use, and it’s more investment into the influencers; people who will be willing to share you game on their social media platforms.  That’s why it’s important, as we already said, to be building up the social media platforms from the beginning and networking and engaging with people and supporting what they do so when your game is ready and you send out some free copies of the decks, those are going to be like ripples in the pond.

So think about doing some research, doing some reconnaissance.  Who are the influencers that have a channel of equal or slightly-greater size than you?  Those would be great first people to reach out to, a great step up for you.  But also, take a few shots in the dark and send some out to people who have very big channels.  If you’ve put a lot of work into your game and it’s looking great and it plays well, just take the chance.  Send it out to some people who might say, wow, we should review this in a couple weeks when we have time; you know, some of the people on the bigger channels.

That’s it for this video.  Thank you so much for staying with me.  Let’s go on to the next one.
